Emergency & Crisis Policy
shrinkMD provides scheduled, non-emergency telepsychiatry. We are not a crisis or emergency service. This page explains what to do if you or someone else is in danger.
Effective Date: June 2026
Last Updated: June 2026
shrinkMD Health Inc. provides scheduled, non-emergency outpatient telepsychiatry to adults. We are not an emergency service, a crisis line, or a substitute for emergency care, and we cannot respond to emergencies.
If you are in immediate danger
If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, or you are thinking about harming yourself or someone else:
- Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day.
- Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
- Text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
These services are free, confidential to the extent provided by law, and available around the clock.
Why shrinkMD is not for emergencies
Care at shrinkMD is delivered by video at scheduled times. Messages, forms, and the waiting list are not monitored around the clock and are not a way to reach a clinician urgently. Relying on them in an emergency could delay the help you need.
What to expect from us
During scheduled care, your clinician will discuss a safety plan with you when appropriate, including the steps above and any local resources. If your needs exceed what responsible outpatient telepsychiatry can provide, your clinician will tell you directly and help point you toward a higher level of care.
For someone else
If you are worried about another person's immediate safety, call 911 or your local emergency number. If they are willing, you can share the 988 number with them.
